NORTH The Musical: A Staged Reading - Bowers Museum

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 12/16/2023
Go behind the scenes with the cast of NORTH, a new musical by Ashli St. Armant, in this informal reading of the script while it's being rehearsed at the Bowers Museum. The play follows the journey of a precocious teenage boy named Lawrence and his young mother, Minnie, as they escape the Deep South and travel North through the Underground Railroad, to seek their freedom. NORTH is based on actual accounts of slave escapes through the Underground Railroad network. While acknowledging the realities of slavery, the book and original jazz compositions by Ms. St. Armant brings out the full experience of freedom-seekers: optimism, bravery, playfulness, wonder, suspense and mystery.
